Atari and Digital Eclipse have announced a new retro compilation called Barbie Rewind, set to launch later this year. The collection will feature 16 classic Barbie games from the 1990s and early 2000s, including a previously unreleased 16-bit title that has never been seen by the public. Alongside these nostalgic ports, the package will also include a brand-new Dreamhouse game designed for current platforms.
The compilation aims to preserve the history of Barbie video games, which spanned multiple consoles like the NES, Game Boy, and Sega Genesis. Many of these titles focused on fashion, adventure, and problem-solving, often blending simple platforming with dress-up mechanics. Digital Eclipse, known for its meticulous retro collections, has restored the original code and added modern features like save states, rewind functionality, and screen filters.
The unreleased 16-bit game, tentatively titled Barbie: Magic of the Rainbow, was originally developed for the Super Nintendo but never saw a commercial release. It follows Barbie as she explores a fantasy kingdom to restore color to a magical land. The new Dreamhouse game, meanwhile, offers a sandbox experience where players can decorate rooms, host parties, and unlock outfits.
Barbie Rewind will be available on PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, and Xbox. A physical edition with a mini art book and replica cartridge is also planned. No exact release date has been confirmed, but pre-orders are expected to open soon.
