The reviews from critics have begun to pour in online. The long awaited live action adaptation of the classic fighting game franchise has finally had its critical reception revealed, and the results paint a mixed picture for fans who have waited years to see these characters back on the big screen.

According to the aggregate review site, the film currently sits at a score that places it firmly in divisive territory. Some critics have praised the movie for embracing its over the top source material, noting that the fight choreography and commitment to the absurd spirit of the games make for an entertaining ride. Others have been far less generous, arguing that the plot feels thin and that the film struggles to balance fan service with coherent storytelling.

The cast has drawn particular attention, with several performances singled out as highlights even by reviewers who were otherwise unimpressed with the overall production. Supporters say the movie understands exactly what it is and delivers plenty of crowd pleasing moments for longtime followers of the series.

Audience reactions may ultimately differ from the critical consensus, as has happened with many video game adaptations in the past. Whether the score climbs or falls in the coming days will depend largely on word of mouth once general audiences get their chance to see it. For now, the studio is likely hoping that enthusiasm from dedicated fans outweighs the lukewarm notices from the press.
