The Nintendo DS built one of the most unusual libraries in gaming history, full of dual screen experiments and touch controls that defined a generation. Plenty of those titles have found new life through re-releases and the Nintendo online shop, but several fan favorites remain stranded on the original hardware. For most players today, these five games are effectively unplayable.
The World Ends with You leaned on every DS feature at once, from touch based combat to microphone calls, and its later ports changed enough that the original experience is gone. Elite Beat Agents, a rhythm game built entirely around tapping and dragging on the touch screen, has never been reissued, likely because of the music licensing involved. Rhythm Heaven Gold faces the same problem, with its timing based touch minigames tied to songs that are difficult to clear for modern release.
Pokemon Conquest combined turn based strategy with the Pokemon roster, and it has never left the DS. Hotel Dusk: Room 215, a noir adventure designed to be held sideways like a book, depends on the system's physical form in ways that are hard to recreate. Emulation exists, but it rarely captures the feel of the original dual screen setup. For now, these games remain locked to aging hardware and secondhand cartridges.
