If you're tired of the boxy aesthetic of Minecraft but want another game to explore, check out the five best sandbox games that aren't Minecraft right here.

Sandbox games give players the freedom to shape their own experience, and while Minecraft dominates the genre, plenty of other titles offer equally compelling worlds to lose yourself in.

Terraria stands out as a natural alternative. Its 2D perspective hides an enormous amount of content, from underground exploration to elaborate building projects and challenging boss fights.

Garry's Mod takes a different approach, handing players a physics playground where creativity and experimentation drive the experience. The community has built countless game modes on top of its foundation.

Kerbal Space Program challenges players to design rockets and manage a space program. It rewards careful engineering and planning rather than quick reflexes.

RimWorld blends colony simulation with storytelling, generating unexpected narratives as players manage settlers, resources, and threats on a distant planet.

No Man's Sky offers a vast universe of planets to explore, build on, and trade across, with regular updates expanding what players can do.

Each of these games captures the sandbox spirit in its own way, giving players room to create, explore, and set their own goals without relying on Minecraft's familiar blocks.
