Gears of War: E-Day video pulled after PS5 logo spotted in Xbox’s own podcast

Gears of War: E-Day video pulled after PS5 logo spotted in Xbox’s own podcast

Microsoft has pulled a segment of its own official Xbox podcast after viewers spotted a PlayStation 5 logo in the background of a "Gears of War: E-Day" developer interview. The footage, which was uploaded to Xbox's YouTube channel earlier this week, showed developer The Coalition discussing the upcoming prequel. But eagle-eyed fans noticed a PS5 development kit sitting on a shelf behind one of the speakers.

The clip was quickly made private, and no official explanation has been given. The incident has fueled speculation that Microsoft may have reversed a late-stage decision to keep the title exclusive to Xbox and PC. Industry insiders have pointed to recent rumors that "Gears of War: E-Day" was originally planned as a multi-platform release, possibly timed to boost flagging PlayStation sales for the franchise.

This is not the first time Microsoft has been caught in an awkward position regarding exclusivity. The company has increasingly pushed its games to other platforms, including "Sea of Thieves" and "Hi-Fi Rush," as part of a broader strategy to maximize revenue. However, "Gears of War" has long been considered a flagship Xbox IP, making any potential PlayStation launch a significant shift in policy.

Fans are now waiting for an official statement. The podcast episode has been re-edited and re-uploaded without the offending shot, but the damage to Microsoft's messaging may already be done. If the PS5 logo was indeed a genuine slip, it suggests that internal plans for the game's exclusivity were changed very recently, possibly after the interview was recorded.
