Star Wars Games That Rewrote the Galaxy: Three Alternate Endings You Missed

Star Wars Games That Rewrote the Galaxy: Three Alternate Endings You Missed

Most Star Wars fans know the classic story: Luke Skywalker redeems his father, the Empire falls, and the galaxy celebrates. But a handful of video games dared to imagine a very different fate. These alternate endings twist the familiar saga into something darker, where heroes fail and villains seize control. Here are three standout examples.

In "Star Wars: The Force Unleashed," the player controls Starkiller, Darth Vader's secret apprentice. The game's canon ending has him sacrifice himself to spark the Rebel Alliance. But the dark side path offers a brutal alternative. Starkiller kills his mentor, Vader, then strikes down the Emperor himself. He takes the throne, ruling the galaxy with an iron fist. It is a chilling what-if scenario where the Rebellion never truly begins.

"Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic" delivers one of the most famous twists in gaming. The player character is actually Darth Revan, a Sith Lord with erased memories. The light side ending sees Revan return to the Jedi and defeat the Sith. The dark side ending, however, is far more sinister. Revan reclaims his old identity, kills his allies, and becomes the new Dark Lord. The Republic falls, and the galaxy descends into tyranny.

Finally, "Star Wars: Jedi Knight - Jedi Academy" lets players choose between light and dark. In the light ending, Jaden Korr defeats the resurrected Sith Lord Marka Ragnos. In the dark ending, Jaden embraces the Sith, kills his master Kyle Katarn, and takes control of the Sith army. The galaxy faces a new age of darkness, with no Jedi left to stop it.

These alternate endings remind us that in the Star Wars universe, one choice can change everything. They let players explore the galaxy's darkest corners, where hope is not always enough.
