Like its predecessor, the Switch 2 is the perfect platform for indies. That has become even clearer in 2026, as a steady stream of smaller titles has landed on the system and quietly taken over my free time. Three of them in particular have kept me coming back, and none of them rely on massive budgets or flashy technology. They succeed because they understand what makes handheld gaming work.
The first is a slow burning exploration game built around a single, haunting landscape. There is no combat and no timer. You simply walk, observe, and piece together what happened to the people who lived there. It runs flawlessly in handheld mode, and the quiet atmosphere makes it easy to lose an entire evening without noticing.
The second is a fast paced roguelike with a clever twist. Each run lasts only a few minutes, but the upgrades you unlock carry over in ways that feel meaningful rather than grindy. The controls are tight, the art style is sharp, and the difficulty curve keeps pulling you into one more attempt.
The third is a cooperative puzzle game designed for two players. It does not hold your hand. You have to talk through problems, test ideas, and sometimes laugh at how badly things go wrong. It is the kind of game that turns a quiet afternoon into a shared memory.
What ties these three together is restraint. They know exactly what they want to be, and they do not waste your time. On a console that can also run massive blockbusters, that kind of focus stands out. The Switch 2 may be more powerful than before, but its real strength is still the same. It gives small games room to breathe.
