Microsoft appears to be preparing a dedicated controller for its cloud gaming service, alongside a new high-end Elite model. Leaked documents and regulatory filings have revealed two unannounced Xbox controllers, one of which is codenamed "Cloud" and is designed specifically for streaming games.
The "Cloud" pad is expected to be a more affordable, lightweight controller built for mobile devices and tablets. Unlike the standard Xbox Wireless Controller, this version is rumored to feature a direct Wi-Fi connection for lower latency when playing games through Xbox Cloud Gaming. It may also include a built-in clip for attaching a phone, similar to the existing Xbox Mobile Gaming Clip but integrated into the design.
The second controller is the much-anticipated Xbox Elite Series 3. While the Elite Series 2 remains a premium option, the Series 3 is said to bring further refinements. Leaks suggest it will include adjustable thumbstick tension, a rechargeable battery with USB-C, and possibly a new d-pad design. Some reports also point to haptic feedback upgrades and a more durable build, addressing common complaints about the Series 2's rubberized grips peeling over time.
Neither controller has been officially announced by Microsoft, but the filings indicate development is well underway. Industry observers expect an official reveal later this year, possibly alongside a new Xbox hardware refresh or a major update to the Xbox Cloud Gaming platform. For now, the leaks confirm that Microsoft is doubling down on both high-end accessories and cloud-native peripherals.
