Fans hoping for extra story content in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth may have been disappointed, but the door is not completely closed for the trilogy's final chapter. Director Naoki Hamaguchi recently addressed the lack of story DLC for Rebirth, explaining that the team prioritized delivering the third installment as quickly as possible. However, he hinted that Part 3 could include additional content if there is enough demand from the player base.
Hamaguchi noted that the development team heard the feedback after Remake, which received its own DLC in the form of the Yuffie-focused Intermission episode. For Rebirth, the decision was made to focus resources entirely on completing the main game and moving forward with the conclusion of the saga. The director stated that the team believed fans wanted the next full game sooner rather than waiting for smaller side stories.
That said, Hamaguchi did not rule out the possibility of post-launch content for the final game. He suggested that if the audience expresses a strong desire for extra story elements or character expansions, the team would consider it. This leaves the door open for something similar to Intermission, but only after the core trilogy is finished.
For now, the focus remains on wrapping up the massive narrative that began in 2020. The third game is expected to cover the remaining events of the original Final Fantasy 7, and the team is reportedly hard at work to deliver a satisfying conclusion. Whether that includes bonus chapters or standalone episodes will likely depend on how loudly the fans speak up.
